PAPER & CELLULOSE

SLAKED LIME   MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE

SMA Mineral is a major producer of lime products for the cellulose industry. The alkali process in the cellulose industry requires a lime product of high purity which must also have very good alkaline properties.

Lime products from SMA Mineral maintain consistently high quality and fulfil market requirements. As a result of investments in our facilities in Sandarne, Sweden, we have developed special products for the cellulose industry. Good storage capacity and efficient distribution through our logistics department mean that a significant volume of "emergency lime" of the highest quality can be supplied quickly and efficiently.

Precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) is often used during the manufacture of paper as a filler and for coating. We can also provide high quality magnesium hydroxide products for pulp treating processes like bleaching.

One of the strengths of lime is the way it can be used to regulate pH levels, but it can also be used for stabilization, drainage, filling and filtration. Both our limestone and our burnt and slaked lime products have been selected for optimum performance at every stage before, during and after the life cycle of the mine.

WATER PURIFICATION

Pure, healthy water should be a basic human right. In all types of water purification it is extremely important to use pure lime and magnesium products. This ensures a good degree of utilisation.

Lime is also an excellent choice for increasing the hardness of water and adjusting pH. Our plants manufacture ground limestone products and slaked lime for sewage water treatment, sludge treatment and for treating drinking water. We also supply bed material for filtration dams.

SMA Mineral also offers high quality magnesia products like magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide.


 

FLUE GAS CLEANING

Flue gases are the gases, particles and droplets of liquid that are formed by pyrolysis or combustion.

The breakdown products of combustion reactions consist of countless hazardous substances that are mixed with the air we have to breathe. Lime products can be used to remove these pollutants. We supply lime products to a large number of customers with specially adapted combustion and flue gas cleaning methods. When lime is used as an absorber it is important to use pure lime products to achieve high efficiency.

LAKE, BOG AND FOREST

LIMESTONE

It was back in the early 1970s that lakes and waterways in Sweden were first treated with lime products to combat the effects of acid rain.

Additions of limestone products raise the pH level, which benefits both the soil and the water. Water regains the ability to nurture a wealth of fauna and flora. Adding lime to soil helps to improve the life energy by improving the balance among the different nutrients. SMA Mineral offers products for customized treatments for different areas.

Lime is spread from the land, air, or water depending on the conditions present.


 

SOIL STABILISATION

Deep stabilisation is an effective method used in various applications in soft soil, primarily to reduce subsidence and improve soil stability. This method is economic and reliable and it is often used to reinforce soil on road and railway embankments, slopes, pits and pipeline installations.

The durability of the columns increases over time after installation, which further improves the interaction between the pillars and the surrounding soil. Lime stabilisation is also an environment-friendly method, because the introduction of lime raises what is often a low pH value of the soil.


 

ASPHALT

Lime was known to be an excellent binding agent back in ancient times. Mortar made from lime hardens much more slowly than conventional cement mortar. By mixing lime and cement it is possible to create the perfect composition, which is very easy to work with thanks to its plasticity. It also provides a weatherproof and very durable construction without the risk of cracking. Plaster or render made with lime mortar is also highly valued by architects all over the world. Lime in all particle sizes - from solid blocks to aggregate and flour - is used to add strength to the infrastructure.

Lime is a reliable material for building water reservoirs, bridges, roads, and no least, in concrete, roofing felt and asphalt manufacturing, as well as in soil stabilisation.
 


 

AGRICULTURE
